School Board Vacancy to be Filled by Appointment by Barb Littel (Business Manager)

Two petitions were filed for the three 2007 school board vacancies. As a result, no election will be held on April 10th. Jeff Von Holtum was unopposed for the two-year term and Steven E. Munk was unopposed for a three-year term. Incumbent Robert Harms did not file a petition, and the board will fill this position by appointment for the 2007-2008 school year.

Persons interested in being considered for appointment to the school board should submit an application to the school business office by April 30, 2007. To qualify for being a school board member, a candidate must be a registered voter and reside within the school district. Usually a board member cannot be interested, directly or indirectly, in any contract or claim with the board. Board members may be paid for their services at a rate established by the school board, up to $75 per day.

The local school board is a uniquely American institution that has made the public school more flexible and responsive to the needs of local communities. A school board member is entrusted with one of the most important responsibilities that can be assigned to any citizen - helping to plan the education of the youth of this nation.

Although the legal requirements for board members are few, the qualifications needed for effective service on a board are many:
